Globeateliê is a global architecture company headquartered in the USA, specializing in the retail and hospitality industries.
I joined the in-house marketing team and was tasked with creating a new business development tool from scratch - a corporate website.
This project is a coordinated work of a whole team, and here I want to share its story.
I started by preparing a brief for our management team. First of all, I was interested in the goals of the website and the target audience.
The main task was to align company values with way of visualization. As one of the company's credos is "we deliver stories", instead of showing pure facts as our competitors did, we focused on storytelling strategy.
At the same time, I tendered 3 development teams to find the most efficient one. As any management, IT requires detailed technical task. So I prepared a 14 pages document with website goals, structure, technical requirements, CMS and responsibilities. Here's the comment of development team CTO:
"This is the first time in my 15 years experience that I've seen such a detailed technical specification"
After all contracts and NDAs were signed, I moved to the prototyping stage. As I already created information architecture, all I have to do is place the content blocks and display the structure of the jumps between pages
At this stage we worked very closely with Top Management on the text content of the website.
In total we planned 20+ pages to be developed.
The design phase is the most interesting and fun for me. In addition to the site design itself, it includes the selection of references, mood board, and UI-kit development to facilitate the development process.
As you can see, we decided to use a fresh design idea with horizontal scrolling on main pages. Aligned to "we deliver stories" concept as if it were a architectural blueprint roll or a movie tape with a story.
Throughout the websitesite, I created elegant and sophisticated animations. Handwritten text as if someone was signing a book, highlighting text or scratch "where I've been" map.
I would like to mention separately the design of cases and "latest stories" - news.
I tried to add something from the clients themself to each case: the floating petals in Victoria's Secret, the Both & Body Works patter, and so on. This gave volume and depth to the design.
Instead of cursor, I put our logo icon
At the stage of code development, we worked very closely with the development team. Since the site involved both front-end and back-end, I communicated with 4 specialists, including the project manager.
Front-end HTML5,CSS3,JavaScript, Type Script, React, jQuery, Angular WebAssembly/ Wasm
Back end .NET Core, ASP.NET Rust and AssemblyScript MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
One of the requests was independence from any third-party web platforms. Wordpress plugins become obsolete, companies go bankrupt, but dear HTML and CSS will always be there :)
As a solution, I developed the logic of CMS (Content management system).
One of the features that our developers helped to realize is the editing and creation of content in a constructor format. For this purpose, I developed block templates for case studies and news pages.
In addition, we connected all the form sites to our CRM system Monday.com. This allowed us to simplify the system of forwarding new requests directly to top management.
The last step before launch was final review for small typos or technical issues. For user testing, we contacted the closest users. Our architectural team :) I prepared a form for comments and assigned tasks to the team, to make work more efficient.
For me, the biggest challenge was Management. Preparing documents and bidding, collecting information from globeateliê project managers, providing information to developers, developing and implementing new ideas, adjusting old ones. But despite all the difficulties, we did it!
fully functioning website in 6 month
+253% in visitors, compared to the previous website
1 big step into efficient business development
It was a multi-faceted and intense project and I am grateful to everyone who participated! Visit globeateliê.com to see for yourself
